awesome. i think we'll get to the bottom of this soon.

Well the frustration continues. I just spent all morning on the lake with a mobile technician and I am no closer to solving the problem (which I dont think is reflection on the tech as I think he is pretty experienced with PCM). No codes on the computer. Ran several different diagnostics tests and reset of different components. Disconnected Perfect Pass altogether. Checked the vacuum connections thoroughly. Went through all the mechanical components of the throttle system. Tried different types of idle air control valves. The only thing we couldnt try was a new throttle position sensor because he didnt have the specific type in his truck. Even that doesnt make direct sense as the problem based on some other tests that we ran but anything is worth a shot at this point. Ran in spurts for a couple hours replicating the high idle consistently and the computer shows everything being perfect.
I am sure some people will say "get your Nautique dealer involved". My local Nautique dealer (2 hrs away) is minimum of 1-2 months out on service with an apparent priority for customers who bought their boats there or are existing customers (understandable to some extent) and the other associated dealer/shop woudnt set an appointment and now doesnt even call me back.
I am as loyal to Nautique as the next guy but this is the second Nautique I have had with consistent problems, and ironically consistent idle problems, which I suppose is more of a PCM issue. I apologize for the vent but this is really starting to aggrevate me. Bottom line is I continue to have a ski/wakeboard boat that I cannot ski or wakeboard behind. I can barely use it.2003 Air 216

so wtf! do we just have lemon engines or what? this is total bs that we can't figure it out. i have been waiting all week for you to say you figured out the problem. vent all you want. i switched to nautique from mc for reliablity/quality reasons and have yet to reap ANY benefit of reliablity.

Craig,
Have you run without the shroud installed and still experience the problem?
In my case removing the shroud pretty much eliminates the problem. Have seen where the shroud needs to be trimmed around the throttle cable, what I tried was shimming the shroud to raise it clear of the cable however that did not make a difference.
With regards to getting a dealer involved, I did bring this issue to my dealer and the problem was not solved.

I have run without the shroud and it is unrelated. I have seen where the PP cable can be interfered with by the shroud but this is different. I have tried to isolate everything I can think of, as well as, the techs that have looked at it and to this point, no one has any further ideas. The only other thing the tech suggested is whether the throttle body itself, or one of the gaskets/seals is maybe leaking, but it doesnt make sense that it only happens after running for a bit and it automatically resets to normal when shutting off and restarting the engine. Everything seems to point to the idle air control valve, but like I said we have tried several different ones, as well as cleaning the valve and seats, with no luck in fixing the problem.2003 Air 216

i emailed pcm today and instructed him to this thread, and explained how my issue came about. he said they are going to start checking things out and hopefully will call me on monday. they don't have a # to contact them on the website, but emailed me back quickly after the initial email. one way or another i am going to get my boat running like it is supposed to run.

The mobile technician I have been using got some feedback from a marine mechanics forum/info exchange. Apparently there have been several similar problems from others on the exchange and most have been related to the throttle position sensor. One mechanic indicated he has replaced 4 of them on the PCM 330 this year alone. I received my new TPS today and hope to install it (all of about 5 minutes) and get out to test it later this week.
Fingers crossed that this is the problem and I can get back to really enjoying my Nautique again.2003 Air 216

Woo-Hoo. After a year of dealing with this idle problem, it finally appears to be fixed. Went out this evening and actually wakeboarded with several buddies with no problems. Looks like the throttle position sensor was the issue. It just took a long time to narrow down and find it.
Hopefully this is the issue for the others as well as it is only about an $75 part. I certainly raised a frosty malted beverage to being able to use the boat as intended and I can now take the family out and get back to teaching my kids to ski/wakeboard.2003 Air 216
