    90 Nautique - alternator belt

My alternator belt broke. I got a genuine replacement and put it on. It does not seem to be as snug as it should be. The alternator adjustment arm is adjusted as far as it will go but the belt is still not real snug. When I start the boat the electrical alarm continues to sound unless I rev the engine.

How can I further tighten the belt? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure that you matched up the right sized belt?

Case closed - "Bad mechanic on job"

All right I have to fess up, I was a real horses behind on this on. Since you guys are so helpful I want to give you a good laugh. I was running the belt as a kind of "figure eight" arrangement. I did this because (other than being a horses behind" I thought the just around the three pulleys was too tight for the belt to be right.

The other dumb thing was I left my boat book at home instead of at the lake. I was able to find a diagram of the engine on the web which made me realize how stupid I was.

I'm a smart guy in a lot of things in life but kind of retarded when it comes to this stuff. However, I now realize that if I'm going to have a boat (I love it) I'm going to have to dig in and learn.

You guys are the best! Really appreciate the help. Now I can tackle the speedometer issue that you helped with also.
