    Teleflex Over Faria?

    Hi Everyone,

I know this subject has been beat to death but there is a little more info to add. Some of you may not use perfectpass or are uncomfortable drilling your hull to install the paddlewheel for the Faria gauge replacements. Teleflex has replacement gauges that will match you orginal analog guages which I believe match way better than the Faria replacements. The rpm gauge even has an engine hour meter. I rented a hertz machine from my local tv repair shop and was able to add my original engine hours. I know this seems anul but someone who has ever looked for a good used boat would appreciate it. Here are some pics let me know what you think?

    Thanks,
    Danny

if you don't mind, could you explain the process of transferring engine hours?

I went through the same replacement process on the swapping out of the digital to analog teleflex gauges, and all you need to do is hook up the gauge to a low voltage dc power source and it will start clicking away, you just have to pay attention to disconnect it after the right number of hours have been rolled onto it.

The reason this works is the hourmeter when installed in the boat is basically hooked up to the starter/ignition, so once the boat is on, the circuit the meter is on has constant power and hence clicks away.

I started with using a $5 battery housing from radio shack that holds 8 AA batteries, which worked but I quickly realized it was going to take a crap load of batteries at the rate they were being drained, so I ended up finishing the process by using the trickle charger for the boat battery I already had, worked like a charm.

maybe! of course I only had 270 hours to roll on, so about 11 days later I was done.

center87 - I really like how it came out as well, looks like original equipment. Plus they look cool at night with the backlighting.

Thanks Jmo for the compliment, I really made sure I researched this to make sure I would be happy with my decesion.

Andrew as far as a quicker method to add hours to your meter, there is not , it has to be done in real time I even asked Joe Federsal at Teleflex and that was his response. I also asked him if they could put the numbers in when building the guage but he said they could not stop the production line.

i figured you could crank up the amps/voltage and spin it faster.... i'm probably gonna tear one up, but i always have to try things for myself.... just hard headed like that! lol

Ummm... I don't think it spins faster with more voltage, but I could be wrong... Wouldn't, then, spikes in power cause more hours to appear on your guage, or constantly lower voltage put less hours? I think it just spins a constant rate if it has power, or not at all if it doesn't... I could be wrong, though.

I sure hope it does not spin faster when it has more voltage! It's a clock.

Where it the perfect pass on that dash? Sorry, but I think that every time I see that picture. I could not imagine owning a boat again without a Perfect Pass.

I am getting ready to replace mine, but am having the hardest time finding the correct gauges online. (I do not have a Teleflex dealer close to me). Who did you order yours through? Do you have the part numbers for the gauges as well? I was using numbers from a past posting, and am not having any luck tracking down the 50mph gauge. (I have been able to find the 65mph) Any help would be appreciated.

If you want something of higher quality and something that is going to be eye catching go with the new autometer marine guages or gaffrig guages. All of the large offshore boats rely on gaffrig guages.

West marine carries the 0-50 analog teleflex speedo and will just need to pull one from their warehouse, the tach/hourmeter is a custom order west marine will place with teleflex as they don't take orders direct. You will need to call West marine and give them a CC to make it happen. This post has the part numbers:

                          http://www.planetnautique.com/index....lex+gauge+tach

On a side note, the tach/hourmeter meter is designed to run with 9 - 15 volt dc sources (or some range like that), a stronger power source only makes it "click" louder, but doesn't alter frequency.

Thanks for all the help.....I was picking up a new impeller over the weekend and told the parts guy what I was looking for. He ended up calling up his rep at West Marine and ordered them. They should be showing up later this week.
