    RamLin trailer bunks

Has anyone changed the bunks on a RamLin "wishbone" trailer? I did some maintenance on mine last season and while re-carpeting the bunks noticed one of the bolts near the front on one side has loosened. Not a huge deal, except the bolt just spins. Since it's a box-frame trailer, I have no idea what it should be catching inside the frame. Anyone had to deal with this before?

The wood is still hanging in there, but just barely. I'd really like to change out the wood, too, but am afraid it'll be a pretty major project. Anyone tackled this?

    RE: RamLin trailer bunks

I believe you can buy the bunks pre-carpeted (check with the dealer). If so, it's just a few bolts or wood screws, depending on your design.

I tried to change the carpet on mine (prestige) but gave up and let the dealer do it.

    a quick search I found this: http://www.overtons.com/modperl/prod...008&r=view

SkiTower -- I wish it was as simple as just purchasing pre-fab'd 2"x4" bunks but unfortunately RamLin's wishbone bunks are 20+ feet long and aren't a standard size. Plus, they're shaped, curved and bolted directly to the frame so just bolting on new ones isn't all that straight-forward.

jhiestand check out my post on aug. 27 ,08. cost me over $1000 to fix the bottom of my boat because I didn't find a loss runner of my Ramlin wishbone trailer till it was to late. the runners are put on with self tapping lag screws and the hole rusts out after time. so for quick fix I cut the carpet around the screws, removed and mover down the rail two inches or so and put it back in. Had my dealer replace with new rails and screws. Dealer said that part of the problem was the tork when loading the boat and they put twice the amout of screws. good luck with your fix.

I agree. It's much easier to add another bolt to the existing bunk rather than replace the entire bunk. If the old bunk is still in good shape, don't replace it. It's a pain to bend a new bunk to match the curve of the trailer.

We had problems with the bunks on our Ramlin. The bolts installed at the factory rusted and broke causing the bunk to slide out and left the boat sitting on the steel frame. We drilled through the bunks and the frame of the trailer and installed 3/8 inch lag bolts in three places along the frame.

its not hard to replace the bunks as long as there under 16 ft u can get a 2x12 pressure treated 16ft long lay it on top and trace the trailer thats what i did it was easy i have a 98 prestige trailer though but it worked great and also put 5200 in the bolt hole in the bunk and all over the bolt to slow down rust

Like mentioned before - bunks are installed with self tapping screws at Ramlin

Easy fix would be to drill a 3/8" hole through the existing bunk and rail - counter sink the
bunk (1/4" deep or so) and use a carriage bolt to reattach.

I've got a similar issue with my ramlin, the bolts closest to the front of the trailer that secures the bunk have broken. Anyone know what the dealer charges to replace bunks?

I might try the suggestion of drilling through and using a carriage bolt - just remember though, if you do this, your brake line and wiring run inside the starboard box frame, so be careful not to drill through them as well...

You could have nuts welded to the trailer and counter sink both the bolt end and the nut end but you would need to not have carpet in the bolt hole area so you could hget at the bolt. The bunks would fit flush onto the metal frame and could be removed if needed.

Another solution would be to drill into the trailer frame and put nutzerts in there. These were used to hold mirrors on truck doors. It requires a special tool to install but a large body shop might have one.
