    $5000 Air Nautique = Help!

Just pick up the boat today(first CC). The boat needs a some work(been sitting for a couple years) but I thought for the price why not. Got home and looked at why the motor would not start. It was not getting fuel and noticed that the fuel pump is not getting power. What should I check first? Just wanted some advice in ways to track down the problem. It is a 1998 correct craft air nautique with a pcm gt40 motor.
    Thanks

Let me get this straight, You got a 98 SAN for 5K$? You gotta post some pics of this thing. because I am picturing either the steal of a lifetime or something with a huge hole in the side that looks like the boat at the beginning of Gilligan's Island!

Well, he did say Air Nautique, but still sounds like a heck of a deal.
Aragunia, I'm not the mechanic so can't help you. But I would suggest you retitle your post to Fuel Delivery problem 98AN, or something like that. A lot of folks who offer the best engine advice only read the posts which are clearly seeking engine advice. BKH

I'd start by checking the relays, and circuit breakers, we had a prob on a 2000 SAN, fuel pump wasn't working, turned out to be faulty fuel pump and was tripping the circuit breaker.

I tried to edit the post/title but I guess It can only be done within the first 10 minutes. The boat has 530 hours and was told it ran great before it sat(guy seemed very honest and did not even count out the 5k when I handed it to him). Here are some pics of it wasting away http://mwhphotography.blogspot.com/2...-nautique.html
I will post some more pics in the right place when I have it all cleaned up.

Thanks for the advice. This is route I was thinking before it got too dark to work on it. Sorry, but what is "SAN" ? _______ air nautique?

              Good deal Mike!!

Looks like a killer boat. The GT40 is a bullit proof engine, so it should be running in no time!
Check indeed the stuff which triggers the fuel pump, the relays and circuit breakers. Most likely this is faulty. The fuel pump should run for 2-3 seconds when the ignition is on. But it will be off when the engine doesn't run. So keep on starting the engine when testing the relays and other stuff.

SAN = Super Air Nautique. It is a V-drive version of your boat.

              Good luck!

so once you get past '02 ish (once they began numbering them), what makes one an Air and one a Super? I'm assuming Air means it has a tower, what makes them Super?

Good luck on your boat. Looks like a steal for $5K, but a lot of elbow grease will be needed.

Not bad. at the end of the day if you had to put 10K into you would still have a deal

Basically, in '98 you had the Air Nautique, the Super Air Nautique, and the Super Sport. Here are the differences:

Air Nautique: direct drive (engine in middle) open bow boat with tower.
Super Sport: V-drive (engine in back) open bow boat without tower.
Super Air Nautique: V-drive (engine in back) open bow boat with tower and ballast tanks.

To make things more complicated, they all share the same hull. Also, the Super Sport could be ordered from the factory to be configured exactly like the Super Air Nautique (like mine!). Not sure the reasoning behind this tactic, but may have something to do with graphics (or lack thereof).

                    Hope that helps.

Congratulations. That's a great deal on that boat. I hope she works and all. Even if you had to replace a ton of stuff it's still a great deal. congrats again!!!

Hey not to be too obvious, but did you push the ignition button on the dash. In addition to turning the key, on that boat, the ignition button must be pushed in. It's sort of a master power button to the boat. If so, you would not be the first person who didn't know. Needs some cleaning up, but for 5K, that's a great deal. BKH

I do not think the 98 Air Nautique had the same hull as the SAN/SS.

I have a '98 Ski nautique (GT-40) and had a fuel pump issue last season that I tracked back to the in-line fuse at the battery. Check that also.
