    what boat lift to get

I am looking for a boat lift for a boat house. What kind of lifts are nice ones? What weight capacity should I get for a '85 2001 or a newer boat. I noticed the new ones go up as far as 3800 pounds. Does the dry weight include the Motor? What does the '85 2001 weigh?

    Thanks

Dry weight is approximately 2400 lbs. Add in for gas, equipment, stereo equipment, towers, etc.

What kind of lift do you need/want? Suspended lift? Floating lift?

Perhaps show a picture ofthe boat house.

Will you need to remove the lift for winter? In a boathouse you'll problably want to lift straight up as opposed to a canteliver style. Do you have a beam above the boat bay that can support a boat hanging from it? More info is needed.

It will be a boathouse with beams above and a roof for the boat and the dock area beside it. It is on kingsley lake in florida if anyone is familiar with the lake. I am thinking of a cradle type and go without the hooks I have in the old boat house. I looked and the ones I have seen have a central shaft connected to a motor and cables running through 4 pulleys. is boat hoist usa a good brand of hoist? or is another better?

I have worked on a vertical harbormaster before. As long as the pullys that are underwater stay free, they work great. If those pullys freeze, it will probably break your cable. Pretty much all the lifts that I have worked on are good lifts if you keep things lubed up and take it easy on them while pulling the boat in or out. I have seen broked welds from being hit so hard by the boat.

              I like Doozie cradle lifts.

                rhs,
Since you have stated that you have the beams above the slip, why don't you go with the simplest and least expensive - a center shaft type hooked to the lifting rings on the boat?

Doozie womt work for me. I need a self supporting removeable lift. The sloping lift of a Harbormaster (as opposed to a canteliver) with a single cable and the least moving parts interested me. My other choices locally are Shoremaster, and Floe. Both are straight up verticle lifts. I am lifting a 98 SN.

I install a lot of Hewitts with another guy here at my lake. He is a dealer. They have a great canteliver lift. You could get by with a 3,000lb. lift. Where are you at?

I just checked out the trition lift by cypress marine. It seems to be the best but I am waiting for the price. http://www.cypressmarine.com/CRADLES..._and_lifts.htm

I currently have 2 of the enclosed planetary gear set units from the 50's. Supposedly they were gear units for planes.
