Broken windshield; houseboat trip starts in a few days!!

The windshield on my 1982 SN model 2001 broke yesterday. I called my usual repair service. Hopefully they can find a new one promptly because we have a houseboat trip planned, leaving very little turn-around time.

My question: If they can't find one, what are the considerations for using the boat with no windshield, if no replacement can be installed in time?

Should I remove the top rail from the windshield frame to eliminate risk of getting it bent while operating with no glass?

Thanx in advance for any help you can offer.
