Hello, just blew the side off of the stock Invertaflo muffler on my 94 SN (351). Has anyone out there tried other types of mufflers, or am I better off going back with the Invertaflo... (not looking for for anything louder)

Mine is patched on both sides with fiberglass. Might want to see what you can do with a fiberglass kit before you spend the big bucks.

I agree with M3Fan try patching it, because i think the normal price is over $600. But if you overheated the muffler you could have burned out all of the resin and ruined the muffler. The Invertaflo is the only way to go in that vintage of boat.

I burned one completely up once after realizing the intake hose came off my water pump. (The dealer in 1989 had not had the mechanic tighten up the hose after winterizing before my February pickup date.) I was required to pay the $400 to replace it on my boat since I did not check the clamp before running. I suggest replacement if you might have damaged the Invertaflow. Guess prices have just gone way up in the last 15 years.

I too noticed a small leak in one of my mufflers on an '01 gt40 . This was after a freeze plug blew, so I suspect it got overheated (however check engine light never came on).
:?: How can I determine the condition of it and the other one, which is not leaking?
:?: Are there any good alternatives out there and why the enormous cost for a fiberglass tube?
:?: What is involved in the changeout?

:oops: Update...,,duugh, maybe this is NOT a muffler. It's the fiberglass pipe coming off the header that feeds down to the "Y" box, which is probably the actual muffler. The CC P/N is 1640767.

Dr.John the tubes are accually not too bad I think they are under a $100 but they are easy to change out only the hose clamps hold them on to the hoses hardest part is breaking the hoses loose from the tubes and manifolds. I normally use a screw driver between the hoses and the tubes to break the seal and spray some silicone spray or you can use dish soap in the area while your screwdriver holds the hose away. When you reinstall the tubes make sure they do not hit the aluminum bracket for the rear motor mount, because it could wear a hole in the tube.
