new low press. fuel pump issues - electrical

I am trying to install a new low pressure fuel pump and it is giving me fits. I could tell that the old pump had an electrical connection because when I'd turn the key it'd make its usual activation noise, albeit a really bad one. I place the new one on and connect the right wires and when I turn the key, nothing happens at all. No noise, no nothin'. What am I doing wrong?

Oh, and the relays are new.

What's the DMM (digital multimeter) or VOM (volt ohm meter) telling you? Is there power at the pump?

If you have a GT40 there is a 15 amp breaker just for the fuel pumps on the back of the engine. Make sure it's not popped. The old one might have tripped it.

IIRC, Bobby has a 1986 or so 2001. Memory fades though.

yeah the '82 is still up and kickin'. the interior is gettin a little rough but it will still pull your arms off.

What's the DMM (digital multimeter) or VOM (volt ohm meter) telling you? Is there power at the pump?

the pump is getting power but not doing anything AFTER you start to crank, not when you turn the key to the run position.

the breakers are all good, relays are new, computer is getting 12V, everything is hooked up they way it should be but the **** thing will not activiate the low pressure pump for anything. it's weird because the old pump would still somewhat work and allow the boat to fire up and run, then all i did was switch out the pumps and now it won't do anything.

the reason i switched out was because i was an idiot and left the drain plug in when i left town for a week and came back with the pump submerged. someone please tell me what could be going on and how to fix this. memorial day is less than 3 weeks away

Lets start with this. Find the two cube Bosch type relays on the back of the engine.
You should have battery voltage at pin 30 on both relays, whenever the battery is hooked up. Even with the key off.
Check that, and PM me, if I miss your reply.

Also, check the resistance of the new pump. I'm thinking it should be only an ohm or 2. If it is infinite, the windings are open.

OK, new developments here. Pin 30's were hot, pump is good.

i discovered that the low pressure pump is in fact getting power and puttin' fuel in the FCC.... only when the engine is cranking. When the key is turned to the run position and it is supposed to prime itself- it has no power and it won't. when the engine cranks - it gets power. you let the key back to the run position - the pump loses power. what could be causing this?
