So I should remove the decals and the pin stripe and then try something like Meguiars Heavy Oxidation Remover followed by Meguiars One Step Cleaner wax first and see how it turns out? Then if I don't get the results I want have someone wetsand it.

I think you should try the Meguiars #49 for sure. Only remove the decals that require replacing, not just because they are in the way. You can work around them. #49 is a great product and works wonders. I use Meguiars Flagship Premium Marine Wax after that. I cannot imagine you will need to wetsand at this point.the WakeSlayer

I just did a total detailing of mine over the weekend and was very happy with the results. I bought the boat last year and it had a ton of oxidation, missing decals and need some serious elbow grease. Last year I did a basic detaling and used some Meguiars Rubbing compound and Flagship Marine Wax and got it looking alot better.
This last weekend I decided to go through it all again. First, I used 3m Super Duty Rubbing Compound with the 3M 9" buffing pad and a Hitachi Variable Speed Polisher. Step 2 was Meguiars Marine Polish with a 9" Foam Polish Pad. Step 3 was Meguiars Premium Flagship Marine Wax and the 3M 9" Buffing Pad again. Take your time, follow the steps on each bottle as far as RPM's (if you have a variable speed polisher/buffer), and you can get your boat looking brand new.1993 Sport Nautique - SOLD 5/10

I have had a boat painted and it was yellow. The paint used was Awlgrip which is specificly made for boats and aircraft. It was a multi part formula with a catalyst and kinda expensive. It also requires a painter knowledgeable about how to mix and spray this stuff. The finished product was awsome, durable and added years of life to a boat that was beyond wetsand & buffing.

Just noticed your question... you probably could apply the super duty rubbing compound by hand, but I would recommend getting some kind of buffer/polisher that you can apply it with to get the maximum effect. On the back of the bottle, 3M suggests that you use a buffer/polisher and gives the speeds that you should set it on.1993 Sport Nautique - SOLD 5/10

No, you will not get the same results by hand. You need a proper pad (wool) and a good wheel turning it at the recommended RPM for it to be effective.1990 Ski Nautique

I just finished wet sanding out all the scratches in the hull from the PO on my '99 NSS, followed by compound and wax. Combined with my new interior, the darn boat looks brand new. DO NOT paint over perfectly good gel coat...just remove the oxidized surface like everyone is saying. Your boat too with look good as new.
