I bought the star brite teak wood kit and have gone through all the steps and put 3 coats of teak oil on and everytime it dries it seems like it just dries out and doesn't give me the look I want. Any ideas?

RE: Teak wood help
keep going, it takes multiple coats........ next time use amazon with spar varnish. it last way longer, and does not make the teak slick like regular varnish

RE: Teak wood help
I put 5 coats of Starbrite Teak Oil on my platform each time I clean it. I like the deep, rich color.1993 Sport Nautique - SOLD 5/10

A good thing to try is to pressure wash the platform. I used less than half a bottle of seabowld teak cleaner, then i pressure washed the crap out of it. I then put brightener on it. afterward, i let it dry for a day or two, then saturated it with about 5 or 6 coats of teak oil rubbe on with a rag. rub it down the grain, and do all this to the bottom as well. It is good to get all mildew and mold off your platform before you oil it. Good Luck!

Not so sure about pressure washing the teak. If you are not really really careful, you may raise the grain too much. Now

It takes time to get that deep shine. I wet sand my platform in between each coat, which makes it smooth as glass. You'd think it would be like stepping on ice when wet, but somehow that's not the case. I probably put at least a dozen layers of oil on before I feel it's ready. Note: if you like that golden teak look, tongue/teak oil is the way to go. If you like a darker look, use linseed oil.'08 196LE (previous)

Let it dry completely. Bake it in the sun if possible. Then wet sand, dry, and reapply. It'll look slick, but it isn't.1998 Ski Nautique (Red/Silver Cloud), GT-40, Perfect Pass Stargazer 8.0z (Zbox), Acme #422, Tunable Rudder.

Is that opposed to the Starbrite oil in the clear bottle? I used the 3 step process last weekend and have been very impressed. I have only put three coats of oil and it appears as if it's starting to hold. After 2 coats, I didn't think it was doing anything either.
So what does it mean to wet sand anyway? I've seen fine grit sandpaper (600 maybe?) that you can use wet or dry. Can someone please describe that process in more detail?2000 Air Nautique
