Blew apart our Inverta-Flo muffler, now what?

Blew apart my friends Inverta-Flo muffler yesterday. We were starting the boat for the first time this year. Apparently a varmint had built a little nest back up in the exhaust as the flap was missing. When the Inverta-Flo muffler filled up with gas fumes and a spark reached it BOOM! It blew off the exhaust hose and blew off the round top piece thats glued/glassed on the top drivers side of the muffler.
    Any BTDTs?
Any one have a contact for the Inverta-Flo company?

    Thanks
    Britt

If you are good at working with fiberglass, you can fix it. The muffler in my 1997 ski got a hole on the underside that I repaired. Use a good epoxy, instead of polyester resins. I used epoxys and fiberglass from Tap Plastics.

A new one will run you about $500 to $700

Man I bet that was loud. BTW thanks for the pic. I always wanted to see the inside of one of those.

I heard that invertaflows were more like $1200, but that one is an easy fix almost looks like it was made to come apart like that. Repair shouldn't cost more than about $30 if you do it yourself.

Just got an email from Centek Industries. New invertaflo muffler $414.20 plus shipping, two week lead time for building.
Not as bad as $1200. Dad knows a boat glass guy, just let him fix it for now

I agree with Foilhead, just repair it with fiberglass or find a friend who works with fiberglass, its no big deal. I have repaired one for a friend a few years back and it never gave a problem. You can get everything you need a Lowes or Home Depot for $20-$30 dollars.

Apparently we did more than damage our muffler

I fixed one of these for a friend with a 93 sport. Someone fell into the motor box and cracked it. I think I paid 50$ at west marine for epoxy and resin. Also pick up a flapper while your there.

I was quoted 1200.00 for a new one, so I'm surprised Centek is only 400.00.

I'll bet that sound scared the Sh***T out of you. I would have jumped out of the boat.

I shoot a lot of fireworks, and stand real close to them a lot (with ear plugs) mine are all 1.4g, but hang out with some professional guys on occasion.
It was loud as Crap! Sounded like a 8 or 10 inch shell going off! I was stunned! And mostly just glad every one was ok.
My buddy, his boat, had been hanging his head over the carb, and I had just told him I didn't want him doing that.
Even though it wasn't the carb, it definitely would have put him more in the line of fire.

Glad to know that the $1200 price I had heard was wrong. After some of the prices I've seen at my closest dealer I will believe anything, but thanks to Discount Inboard Marine and others I don't have to pay those prices.

If you've never tried working with fiberglass, that's a real good project because it won't matter if it is a little sloppy and you don't have to worry about making a mess in the boat.
