RE: Re: RE: Warning on purchasing parts
I never said they were saints. I also would never buy a prop ( or shaft, etc) from them for exactly the reason you stated. If you do, they are just a middle man and you pay for that. However, for CC proprietary parts, you have no choice and I do not beleive they take advantage of the situation. With that said, 100% markup is not unusual for many dealers, especially automotive. If I know the specific manufacturer of a part used on my Nautique, I find it elsewhere (i.e. light pole socket, gas springs, nav lights, horns, etc.).
Here's an example of why I like them. I needed a new map pocket for my '99 NSS that was missing when I bought the boat. Paul spent his time looking up the part in the part book. He actually couldn't find it and got on the phone to CC. While he was on the phone, I found it in the book and the price showed about $30.00 (old book, old prices). CC said NLA, but check with one of the distributors. He called back later in the day and said he could get it, asked what color I wanted and quoted $60.00. To me, he put in the effort and $60 was worth it to me, regardless of the percentage S&S is making on the deal. I got the service I expected.
Sure, S&S has quoted me some crazy prices (like $1200 for a new dash pod), but if it is more than I think the part is worth (or I can pay), I say no thank you and research my options.
