    high pitch noise

Any one have any suggestions on what this noise might be. about a 12 sec video if it downloads. Happens when I take the boat out of gear and it is slowing down. sometimes it happens when I barely put it into gear and goes away with just a little more throttle. My thoughts are either just noise from tranny or harmonic prop?

Did you repack the shaft recently? Sould like metal on metal. I'd check the packing or that area. I would think if it was the transmissin it would be doing it all the time.

I have never heard that noice in my NAUTIQUE. What type of transmission does infinity use? I thought they used PCM in the day, but could have been a merc?

This is a really common noise with Infintys. It's a PCM motor coupled with a hurth tranny. Do what Cradsv said check the packing. You should be at a 6 to 10 drop per minute rate unless you have a dripless packing. Remember you tranny is right behind your drivers seat on this boat (v-drive). You might check with PCM and see if they know of this problem and have a solution. I know we put pressure relief hoses on 1989 CCs with the first 1.23 trannys. They squealed and growled like yours.

that look like a DD from the video's... Anyways... It's probably brake dust on the calipers. Oh wait, I've spent too much time this winter rehabbing my 914... ugh. IT's running now though!

Sure sounds like a shaft packing squeal to me.

Boat has less than 100 hrs. it is a 2001 infinity pcm 5.7 with the hurth v drive. nothing has been done to the packing it is actually pretty tough to get to. Would you recommend loosing it up or does it need to be repacked

              brodie,
Does it have a conventional packing gland or is it dripless?

If it's conventional it's a tough call. It could to loose or to tight. If it's dripping less that the 5 to 10 per minute then tighten. If not then it's too tight.

If the shaft has a dripless on it then check to make sure you have water going to it.

I will check it thursday when I go down to the lake. I had not paid much attention to it. Being a V drive it is pretty much out of sight out of mind. Unlike my last boat that was easy to check. I am pretty sure it is a conventional packing

I'd still say it is something in the shaft tranny. Might take the motorbox off and do some testing.

It appears that this noise may be the shaft packing. When i first started the boat and I was getting about 6-8 drops a minute and the noise would happen when I took the boat out of gear. after skiing one set the noise was present when I put the boat in gear until I increased the rpms. checked the packing and I was not getting any drops. I tried to loosen the packing gland best I could with the tools I had( any suggestions on loosing it in a V drive what a bugger). I started to get a drip about every sec. drove the boat noise went away and rechecked and then the drip was about every 5-6 secs. any tricks with vdrives
