Whining, whistle type noise from my new 210.

Put about 6 hours on my boat so far and I have this high pitched whistle sound that kicks in around 3K RPMs and then stops when you push over 4K. It comes from the engine compartment and I tried to isolate it by running with the hatch up to listen really well but I can't tell exactly where it comes from.

Spoke to my dealer and he told me they changed the v-drive in 09 slightly and they had some similar noises on a few 09s Said it should stop after 10-15 hours.. He hasn't heard my boat though so we're not sure that it is.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like a good reason to go put 4-9 more hours on your boat!

What kind of gas are you running? I remember reading in the owners manual that the if the fuel octane level isn't high enough then you will hear a high pitched noise.

unless they changed on the new excalibur 87 octane is preferred. as long as your oil pressure, volts, and temp are fine i would continue to use it until your 25 hour service. sounds like you have a throttle body spacer but i know you don't.

Running 87 octane. Oil pressure, temp, and volts are all good.

You should take the boat back to the dealer. Your motor should not be making a whining noise and there is no "magical" time in which that noise should stop. There is a problem and they need to fix it.

Dealer is 2 hours away. I wonder if PCM will warranty it if my local guy looks at it. He is certified from PCM.

No way I am dropping it off at the dealership when we have 90 degree weather here in NC. It's more like a whistle sound than a whine. Very high pitch.

100% positive it comes from the engine compartment. Sounds to me like something needs lubricating.

Do not take it to the dealer. My boat has had the same problem and it sounds exactly like what your going through. All you have to do is unplug the pcv valve hose. Then it should stop almost instantly. I had an entire new transmission, belts, and pullys put into my 226 before they relized it was the pcv valve.

Which hose is that? I have one hose that I noticed is pitched almost flat. It is on the right side of the motor near the top if you looking at the motor from in the boat. Approx an inch is diameter and i think it had a green stripe on it.

I forget what color mine was orginally. For my motor which is a 2005 6.0, you take off the motor cover, then you see a hose running from the left to the middle. Then you yank it off, and then it stops. Mine was only whistling when i was at idle to about 3,000 rpm. Hopefully this helps.
