best way to check voltage at fuel pump relay??

I need to check the voltage coming off the fuel pump relay, can I just pierce the insulation with a sharp lead from my multi-meter, or does anyone else have an idea?

Also, are there two relays for the fuel pumps, or does one run both the low pressure and high pressure pumps?

    thanks,

sometimes you can pull the relay out about 1/16", enough to get a lead on the terminal, without interfering with it's normal operation. You might also be able to pull the relay socket it it's snapped into a bracket to allow access the wires on the backside, maybe. I am no fan of peircing insulation on power wires in boats.
