As a pulled the rear plug the other day I noticed that there is a nickel and some kind of cotter pin in the drain path. Is there a quick way to get to these so they can be removed?
It was posted in the Maintenance & Technical Questions area, so must be a questions!
Personally I would move all the boards and junk out of the way and reach back there and get the items. Arms might come back a little bloody, but you will have a clean baby. The little prices we pay to raise our children right.
1- Remove the interior and accessories from the rear of the boat.
2- Remove the engine and trans.
3- Suit up in a EPA approved full body coveralls.
4- Remove nickle using sterilized surgical instruments.
I guess. I just thought that it was extraordinarily obvious to reach down there and grab the stuff. Sorry. Bring some paper towels and wipe out the bilge while you are down there too. As long as you are going to get your arms stuck, you may as well get more than $.05 out of doing it.

Sounds like he is referring to the Rear plug in the transom, not the bilge drain.
Use a coat hanger or something to push the nickel as far forward as possible, if you can't see it or reach it, remove the doghouse and rear floor section (assuming you have an inboard) you should see it then.
yes, I am refering to the rear plug in the transom..just wanted to know if there was a quick way to get that stuff without pushing it forward...on the other hand I appreciate all the great suggestions...ill be sure to pull out my coveralls this afternoon
