95 gt40 running rough during acceleration

I have a 95 SKN with a gt40. This weekend it started running rough and hesitating when pulling up a skier. Once the boat planes and is up to speed it runs fine. The boat also runs fine under idle. Any body have an idea where I should start?

I had the same trouble last year - same boat same exact problem. I checked my timing - it was fine. I changed my fuel filter and that helped but then the problem occurred again. I changed plugs, cap and rotor - no change. I finally checked my fuel pressure and it was reading only 30 psi when it should be 40. Over the winter I put in new high and low pressure fuel pumps. I am putting the boat in the water tomorrow for the first time of the season so I will let you know how things turn out.

Do you still have the protech type ignition system? If so then it'll probably be coil related. Heaps of posts on this problem have a search here or on the "other" board

I just took the boat out for the first time. With my new fuel pumps my pressure was up only 4 psi ( 34 vs 30). The boat ran great. No skiers though. However I did at least ten rapid accelerations from dead stop and there was no hesitation at all. I will look into the Protech ignition system just for fun to see if that needs some attention. I think there may be some ethanol in my gas or something but for right now it seems fine. Do you know if we have protech ignitions ?

Great. This helps alot and gives me some place to start. How do I measure the pressure on the pumps? I just looked in my owners manual and it showed that I had the Protec ignition system. This is what they install to protect the boat from overheating, low engine oil pressure and poor quality fuel , etc. Thanks for the info.!

Guys, if you have the "GT40" 310HP multiport injection motor, you do NOT have the Protech system.
