Is a Ramlin Swing Away Tongue Reversible?

I have an '07 Ramlin trailer with a swing-away tongue. Right now the tongue pivots and swings toward the driver's side of the boat. The previous owner mounted the spare tire on that side of the trailer so I can only swing it 45 degrees or so before I hit the spare.

Can I swap the removable pin and the bolt so that the tongue swings towards the passenger side of the boat? It certainly looks like it should work, just wanted to see if that's allowed before I take it apart.

    Thanks! Keith

Yes, just put the bolt on the other side. If you have a spare tire, it might get a bit in the way though.

That's why he wants to flip it, to get it away from the tire. However, take a look at your jack too...

The jack and (small detail) the stop nut welded to the swing side.

this is kind of a dumb question, but, Can the spare tire be switched to the other side? sounds like less work?

Yes the spare can but it might get in the way of the jack.

I want to avoid moving the spare if possible because I think the spare tire mount has marked / rubbed the paint under the bracket / bolts. Would prefer not to expose that.

Moving the spare would be a more logical thing to do though :-)

I'll try to look at my 07/08 trailer tomorrow night. The jack whould be on the tow vehicle's driver side and the spare on the other.

The kit on this thread looks reversible. http://www.planetnautique.com/index....ght=tongue+kit

I checked my trailer today and the pin is on the boats driver side and it swings to the boat's passenger side.

I ordered the trailer with the spare...maybe that's why they set it up to swing to port.

I'll take a look at mine today, but I wonder if you could make the tongue removable? Replace the pivot bolt with another pin. Put a quick disconnect on the wires. Remove the bow stop and the tongue would not be that heavy. Here is a picture of mine, but can't see the bolt very well.

Sure Dave, you'd also need a fitting for the brake line. My buddy's 99 Sanger has a removable tongue. It is a factory Sanger trailer.

I checked my trailer today along with my brain. Brain is critical condition and failing rapidly.

Trailer tongue swings to the boat's starboard side ...side with spare. Still looks reversible or dual pinned is okay. There is a bumper on the side that swings...so If I switched it...no bumper to prevent paint damage.

When I bought my boat I got it home and backed it in the garage to find out that the pin was siezed up and there was no getting her out. So I just pulled the bolt on the other side and swing it on the pin. No problems so far.

So to answer your question, yes it is reversible
