Problems with my low pressure fuel pump

I have a 97 Sport Nautique with the GT-40. I keep popping my 15 amp breaker in the back of the motor once the engine fires up. I have replaced the low pressure fuel pump and filter and cannot figure out why it keeps popping the circuit. I unhooked the wires going to the 15 amp breaker and hooked them up to a 25 amp breaker and same thing . . . the engine just ran longer and the wires were getting hot. It isn't even pulling very many amps either. Please can someone give me an idea what is wrong.

RE: Problems with my low pressure fuel pump

I had this exact same thing happen and it turned out to be a bad LP fuel pump. Even though it still made noise like it was working, it clearly had a short of some sort. The engine would fire, run for a sec, then the breaker would pop. I'd keep it simple and replace the pump (again). Did you have the problem before, then replace the pump, and the problem still persisted?

You might also double check the current draw with an amp meter. Maybe your breaker is week....if you know everything else is good.

I replaced the old fuel pump and the fuel filter and I am still having the problem. Is the problem the filter being pushed onto the pump too far and creating too much resistance which then pops the 15 amp breaker?

I think you have some other problem. Is that the only load on the breaker?

I missed where you said you connected it to the 25 amp breaker and heated the wires. Don't do that again. Obviously you are pulling too many amps.
