    2004 210 Questions/Issues

    A couple of questions:

At what low battery voltage will the boat send out a warning beep? The voltage meter was reading between 10 - 11. Is this low enough to cause the warning?

At engine start and idling in neutral, I hear a loud clanking noise coming from the engine compartment. This continues until the boat is put in gear, then the noise goes away. The engine runs smooth and quiet as it normally would once it is in gear. This is a new noise that I have never heard before last night. Any help?

    Thanks guys.

You might be loosing your damper plate in the tranny?

      RE: 2004 210 Questions/Issues

So reading through the forum and similar posts on the clanking noise, I'm hearing a few different possibilities:

      - Damper plate in tranny
      - Loose prop
      - This is normal and CC doesn't have a fix

This does not sound like a "normal" clanking noise. It's very noticeable and for a noise like this to just appear out of no where kind of scares me. If it goes away after a certain point, I would think there would be a fix for it to not be there any more. Or maybe that's just my lack of knowledge on the issue...

The clank that you might have read about is only when its in gear. My vdrive has the dreaded knocking sound when in gear. I have had several people look at it but no fix.

The reason I say damper plate is that it goes away when you put it in gear. The damper plate is what connects the tranny to the motor. A loose prop would not knock out of gear because there would be no pressure on it. It would knock in gear at idle maybe. Are your motor mounts still tight?

Just updated another thread, but figured I'd do the same to the one I started.

Engine noise has been tracked to the starter. The noise does not occur every time, but enough to where you know something is wrong. I believe the starter stays engaged in neutral, but once put in gear, it pushes it out. My mechanic will pull the starter next week, so I'll provide an update then.

Mucho props to Buxton Marine. Dropped the boat off at 5pm last night, received a call at 8:30am, problem fixed. Starter was bad, replaced. I couldn't believe they got to it that quickly. Great service!!
