2003 ZR6 in 226 shuts off after 30 minutes of runtime

    I'm going to the lake this afternoon and will check to see if water is in the fuel and to put Heet in the tank . Both times the engine has stalled the bow was elevated due to towing a tube and a wakeboarder.

    Is the fuel pickup point at the back (bottom) of the tank.

      I also have the ZR6 and have been having running problems, mine turns out to be the ECU, boat ran perfect all day then wouldn't start and had to be towwed off the lake. next day started and ran perfect than cut out. I noticed that running hours had gone to zero. By moving the ECU from side to side (after un bolting) I could get it to cut in and out.
      did you notice if hours went to zero ? also when it cuts out see if you can get a spark while it is being cranked over, if there's no spark it's not fuel

        I took the boat out late this afternoon. I put three cans of Heet in the fuel. I filled the rear ballast and set the perfect pass at 21 miles per hour. The bow was elevated slightly and I ran it for probaly 30 minutes. I then dropped the speed down to ~14miles per hour and elevated the bow more, almost immediately the boat started missing and stalled. I did get it to crank back this time on the first try. I idled it back to the slip. (to late in the evening to be stranded on the lake)

        Does this sound like excessive water in the tank or the fuel pump failing when put under a little heavier load. I plan on taking a fuel pressure gauge with me next time out to check the fuel pressure when it starts stalling.

        I guess it's possibly time to have the fuel pumped out of the tank.

        I look forward to your replies and trully thank you for your advise.

          Sounds like a crankshaft position sensor going flaky to me.

              It was late and I did not check it last night. It will probaly be a couple of days before I can go back to the slip now due to my sons baseball games the next three days.

              I may have my dealer come back down and check it. I'm leaning toward water in the fuel or the fuel pump has failed.

                If you have water in the tank,(quite a Bit). You need to drain the tank and start fresh..fill up tank and add some fuel conditioner water stabilizer
                drain and clean out your filters too…We worked on a friends boat for weeks checking everything from top to bottom..adding Gas treatment over and over,But still acted the same,,Till we drained the tank and started all over .
                Draining everything,,fresh gas and all…No problems,,over 1 year now…

                  I was able to take the boat out last night for about 45 minutes of wakeboarding and tubing. The boat ran well.

                  I had the fuel removed from the boat; a new fuel filter installed, changed the impeller and changed the oil.

                  I believe the fuel was probably the problem. I will stay close to the dock for the next few trips out just to be sure.

                  Once again I want to thank all that provided assistance. IT WAS TRULY APPRECIATED.

                    I took the boat out today and after 30 minutes of running including cruising and wake boarding the motor shut down. The motor re-cranked immediately an ran about a mile at 30 miles per hour before shutting off. The motor died as if I had pulled the kill switch. Then in about 20 minutes I was able to crank it and drive it another mile before it died again this time I was able to keep the motor running by feathering the throttle. I waited another 5 to 10 minutes and was able to get the motor running long enough to get it in our slip.

                    Any ideals?

                    I was told that the fuel pressure was alright?

                    Monday it will be taken back to the shop again.

                      Have the shop check the toggle switch on the side pod for loose connections and also recheck the relay connections on he motor.

                        Pull the plug on the HP fuel pump connector and measure the ohms of resistance and report back.

                        Did you ever do the timing light trick I suggested? ...to confirm fire and no intermittent spark problems.

                        I'm not being critical, but you keep going out to try it but you are not checking what we suggest.

                        It could also be that your fuel pressure is okay but the pump might be low on volume.

                        I don't think it is the crank sensor (intermittent)...that should throw a code.

                          The problem was the Crank Sensor!

                          White Lake Marine was able to isolate the problem. After about 1.5 hours of on the lake testing the boat began to fail and fail and fail. They had their computer connected and it through the crank sensor code each time it failed. They replaced the sensor (very hard to get too) and then retested the boat for an additional 3-4 hours with no problems.

                          David and the rest of the crew at White Lake were excellent to work with. I look forward to having my boat serviced with them in the future and working with them on any new boat needs.

                          I also want to thank everyone on the forum for their responses. It was truly appreciated.
