    All propeller gurus

Dinged the prop on my 99 SNOB over the weekend. It is a Acme 422 12.5x15.5v.

Engine is a 5.8 HO, carbed.

My question is what would be the best replacement prop for this boat. I have the original 4 blade(reconditioned) on the boat now but have not water tested it.

Primarily used for slalom. Will have the Acme redone, but would like suggestions on a new prop.

    Thanks :?:

The 422 is a great prop, but if youre comfortable with turning an extra 200RPM, the 470 3-blade is a *little* better. You'll love either Acme after you run that OJ Legend for a while!

Try the OJ prop. Quite often, after they are reconditioned once, they are better than they were new.

I know there is a great debate btw 3-4 blades. I am looking for the best hole shot and don't really care about top end. If we are not skiing, usually just tooling around slow.

Appreciate the advice. Love this site.

I've got the 470 3 blade on my 196. It's got a better hole shot, softer wake, and picked up 2mph top end speed. The downside is it turns 200rpm more at 34mph and has wierd resonance. Regardless, I'm keeping it on the boat and the 422 has become the spare.

2gofaster: is that 470 the prop you bought from me?

Here is a chart I put together on 422 vs 470. ACME also has a 4 blade with a lower pitch than 422 I would like to try. If I visit rock-bottom Canyon Lake this year and take a spare prop, I'll try it...don't have the number handy. Note I couldn't really sense any hole-shot difference. 2go's 196 might be more responsive. Also agree with 2go on the softer wake of the 3 blade.

Finally got out this weekend. The old 4 blade OJ is smoooth. Very nice. Also noticed less noise when backing off the throttle. Very happy, but I will get the Acme redone.

                Thanks all!
