210 Air Nautique - Won't move past idle.

210 Super Air Nautique 2003, when I try to move forward past idle, boat won't go in the next gear. I can put it in neutral and rev engine, without it bogging down. I can idle or reverse, engine did not overheat. When we put it back on trailer, noticed alot of smoke from exhaust, but was white in color. We had gone wake surfing, the day before, so I'm thinking maybe water got in the fuel filter, relays or something? Also the prop lifted out of the water a couple times for just a few seconds, could I have screwed up the clutches or something else in transmission?

Just out of curiosity - how exactly did the prop "lift out of the water"? Are you talking about when you were surfing?

Yes, while surfing we had alot of weight on one side of the boat and then hit a roller wave from the side which tipped us even more causing the prop to come out of the water, for just a couple seconds I could feel it and hear it.

The boat will not go into forward gear or does it go into gear and it will not throttle up? I do not think anything happened to the trans when the prop came out of the water.

This turned out to be water in the fuel filters and tank. Replaced filters, changed spark plugs, drained the tank and dried it out. My boat is back to her wonderful self, no more surfing for us.

You could always utilize the bilge pump... And pay attention to the wave coming over the back. Just bump it forward for a second and the wave will not come over the back.
