HELP! Im out camping and motor overheated, wont start now

2001 SAN Ran fine for an hour or so which leads me to believe that impeller is fine. The strainer cup was not tight so I think it lost suction. Once it cooled off I cant get it to turn over again. This boat has run flawlessly ever year for the last 4 years we've owned it. We are out in the middle of nowhere, can anyone give any suggestions for troubleshooting?? Thank you!

you starved your impeller with lack of water due to the leak in the strainer and burned up your impeller. Doesn't matter if it was brand new 5 minutes before you ran it with the loose strainer, it's still burned up. Tighten the cup and install a new impeller, that will fix your cooling problem. If the overheat did damage you will to fix that too.

As usual, I agree with Mikeski.

Also, what are your definitions of "wont start now" and "can't get it to turn over" ....those are entirely separate problems related to electrical power.

Will it not crank? ...or crank and not run? or what ?

If the motor will not crank over it could be lock by water in a cylinder. but you need to correct the cause and the effect of the overheat before too long or you can cause more problems down the line.

Hope you didn't seize the motor. Exactly HOW hot were you running it? When you turn the key, are you getting anything? A click? Can you hear the starter at all?
