    Raleigh area PCM mechanic

I hate to even ask as obviously I would go to White Lake, but I am told they are 3 weeks out on service appointments. I am having a warm idle problem (idles at 1000 rpm or higher once the engine is warmed up) that I dont necessarily want to let go for 3 weeks and it is not a hop skip to White Lake from Raleigh. Does anyone have any experinece with the new Belews lake location as apparently the Graham store will not reopen? Anyone have any good experience with any of the other Raleigh area techs (one of the local mobile guys advertises being a PCM certified tech), or do I just need to suck it up and wait on White Lake?

    Thanks

    RE: Raleigh area PCM mechanic

Try Diego at Powerboat service on Atlantic Ave in Raleigh. (919) 790-7760

A little further from your location, try Joe Thompson at Inboard Marine Services in Elm City (Wilson) - (252) 237-0616

Both are first class guys that I have used on my PCM.

There's a dealer on Lake Gaston and aarond0083 says a local mechanic in Bailey is PCM ceritified. My first choice is WL, but I do understand not wanting to wait 3 weeks.

Lake Gaston Watersports http://www.lakegastonwatersports.com/ has both NC & VA locations on the lake, but I know they've had some boats for 3-4 weeks in the queue, and that was before the Memorial Day incidents happened.
If you've got one of the newer engines where the computer controls everything, I won't offer any suggestions.
Prior to joining the inboard world, I had a Chaparell (20+ years old now) with an OMC/Corbra engine that had a fast idle problem. By moving a nut, the mechanic was able to fix it at the ramp for us. Every other year or two, the idle speed needed adjustment & I could handle it myself since I knew where it was.
If you've got prior dealings with White Lake, it might at least be worth a phone call to see if they can do a phone diagnosis & fix for you so you can skip the trip & delay.

May want to contact Brandon at http://www.yourmobiletechnician.com/. I haven't used him personally but have friends that have and he comes highly recommended. It is a mobile service out of Durham/Roxboro so he is close by. He posts a lot on EORG (http://www.endofropegang.com/).

Thanks for the info. This is one of the things that makes this site so valuable. I really need someone with diagnotic capability as I am pretty sure the issue is computer (or possibly perfect pass) controlled. When the high idle problem occurs, if I turn off the engine and immediately restart it idles normally until I run in gear for a while. To me this indicates that it is not a mechanical issue but I am certainly no expert. It is the dreaded problem that takes 15+ minutes of runtime to occur. It must be something with me + a Nautique + idle as my previous 1979 Ski Nautique also had a warm idle issue although that was a stall problem.

2003 sounds like a new enough engine for idle speeds (and everything else) to be computer controlled, and not mechanical, but wasn't following CC in '03.
Call/e-mail around a bit. I think if you hit "system off" on PP, you could at least eliminate that, but everything I know about PP is that it is an RPM limiter, not an RPM increaser.
Betweeen WL or LGWS, I'm sure one of those guys has heard of the problem before. I'm not sure who WL's resident engine diagnosis guy is, but David always has been knowledgeable every time I've talked to him. For LGWG NC, I suggest talking to Bob. For LGWS VA, talk to Corky (owner -- taken many CC & PCM education sessions) or Matt (mechanic).
I've never used Brandon (YMT), but heard very good things about him. Not sure if he would've done the volume of work on PCM engines or not to have seen a problem like this before or not.
