Depends. Does it have actual trans fluid in it now or light 20wt motor oil? You'll know if it has a red tint to it or not. These older boats sometimes just used the 20wt. I have always had 20wt in mine. If it actually has red trans fluid in it then we'll go from there- I don't know the exact type.

M3 has it right about the 20wt oil or tranny fluid.

If it has red fluid, you can change with dextron 3, as it replaces dextron 2 without any problems. If its not red, stick with the 20wt oil.

If it is currently trans fluid, keep it that way. 20wt has no advantages. For the borg warner trans I don't know what the fluid is. Probably Dextron III or something. It won't really matter that much which one.

Actually, the difference is that with the Dexron, you will hear some gear whine, and with the 20wt, you won't. If the gear noise doesn't bother you, then stick with the Dexron.
