Velvet Drive Transmission still turning prop in nuetral

I have a 1984 Nautique with a 1:1 Velvet Drive transmission. Just recently the prop started turning forward with it in nuetral. The transmission is not in gear and I can stop the shaft from turning with my hand. After this problem started I changed the fluid which still looked good and found now metal shavings in the bottom of the transmission. There was no debris in the transmission screen. I am using the correct ATF and the level is right were it needs to be.

This condition is somewhat common. Just means that your drum/plates are dragging just a bit, or something like that. A complete rebuild will cure the problem (maybe), but most do not think it is worth the trouble and the transmission can last a long time with this condition. Or, you could have the start of more serious trouble (since you found metal).

Glazed clutches will do that. They will run a pretty good while like that like DavidF. My old 83 turned a little like that and my dealer said leave it alone.

our Mustang does this too. Not a big deal.
