    Not sure if everyone else already knows this, but an easy trick I learned for checking the impeller is to remove the hose above it and squirt a little dish soap in there right before you launch. When you start it up, should have bubbles coming out the back end. Good way to make sure you did everything right when you changed the impeller.

      Question, do you drain the block every year or do you allow the lake water to remain in the block? The reasons for the question is I have experienced a heating problem were the customer did not drain his block every fall. The block became plugged resulting in an overheating problem. Pull the plug on the side of the block and water should drain out fairly quickly, if not them you will need to purchase a small pump and gallon of Draino and circulate the water through the block for about 24 hours. The comment above about the gasket in the water filter is also critical, if the cooling system is able to suck air your system will not be able to provide sufficient water to cool the engine.
