Just checking to see if any of you have had this same/similar problem. The boat is currently at the Nautique dealer here in Dallas but they can't seem to figure out the problem either.
A few weeks ago I pulled my alternator off of my GT-40 to have it tested...it seemed that my batteries weren't staying charged properly while out on the water and I assumed it was probably the alternator. I had the alternator rebuilt and bearings changed out. The alternator shop offered to reinstall the alternator so I let them. I took the boat out for Memorial Day Weekend, dropped it in the water, pushed the start button, and a nice cloud of smoke came out from under the engine compartment. I took a quick smell of the smoke and could tell it was electrical. I looked more and the guys at the alternator shop had hooked the green wire up to the static post instead of hooking it to the correct feed. By hooking it up wrong, it completely melted the insulation off the wire.
So, I called Nautique and had them order me the GT-40 PCM Wiring Harness for the alternator. I installed it correctly by just replacing wires as I went along. After the installation, the 60 amp fuse on the front of the engine continues to blow every time the fuel pump comes on prior to starting the boat. I yanked the alternator out and replaced it with a brand new one to test and it still blows. If I pull the Orangy Red Wire off of the alternator, the boat fires up fine. Other than this, I've had no problems with the motor.
Any ideas on where to start looking? Something is overloading the 60 amp circuit but I can't seem to find the problem. Apparently the dealership is having the same problems.
Appreciate the help.
