Multiple Problems after a bad day

'03 SANTE 210 w/ Excaliber engine and factory ballast

We took a good size wake over the bow and had some standing water in the floorboard and some splashing onto the dash area. After the boat dried out, the Starboard ballast switch will only fill, not drain. All of the other buttons seem to work fine. This is the keypad setup with the ballast switches that you tap to fill and hold down to drain. Any ideas?

I have developed an oil leak at the remote filter housing. Nautique dealer "fixed" the same problem at the end of last season by replacing the o-rings at the oil line fittings. What is going on that these would leak again after only 10-15 hours?

The rear hatch hinge screws are pulling out of the hatch lid. Is there a way to re-secure these without taking the cover apart?

The perfect pass seems to be surging when pulling at 17mph+. If I set it to 19 mph it wil jump to 20 or 21 then fall to 17. I know it will vary a little, but this is excessive.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good ipod holder near the helm?

I have your same boat and set up and can only comment on the PP surge. I have the same issue as well in the 18-20 mph range. I noticed that the surge would occur when turning to starboard. I checked the paddle wheel and it appears that it was installed crooked (i.e. not running parallel) to the centerline, facing a it out to port. I called PP to see if there is a way to correct and I was told that the entire paddlewheel unit and housing would have to be removed and re-installed.

As an alternative I looked at adding StarGazer to eliminate the need for the wheel, but then we started to surf almost exclusively and I don't have the surge problem at speeds that slow. So I haven't done anything to correct the problem, besides just living with it.

    Might be worth a look.

      Concerning my remote filter.
The hoses tend to sweat throug the press fittings.
Best is to renew the 2 complete hoses.
Those hoses are 3 or 4 layers.
Due to the high oil temp those hoses have the first inner layer a teflon one.
Teflon is soft and tends to creep, so the press fittings become untight.

        Redbird,

My paddle wheel is easily rotated in it's housing. Just loosen the big nut and rotate the top until the arrow -> points towards the front. I actually rotated mine slightly off parallel so it would not speed up or slow in the turns.

I had the same issue with my PP on my 03. Never did get it working correctly. I just started using RPM mode and never had another issue. My 04 is perfect.

KS619 have you checked to see if you popped the breaker on the ballast pump. You may just need a new pump.

Mileski - I tried doing that but my paddle wheel housing has an indexing notch. The wheel unit can rotate, but it won't seat and seal correctly unless it is lined up with the notch. The guy I talked to at PP said that the paddelwheels varied a bit between years and some of them could be adjusted - unfortunately mine isn't one of the ones that can. Thanks for the reply though.

There was a service bullitan for for v-drive boats with center ballast tanks and PP.

Your surge problem is probably caused by this if it wasn't fixed. Mine did it until I had the service done. Now I get no surge.

Can't help you with anything else, but it sounds like your problem with the starbord ballast switch may just be a faulty pump instead of the switch itself. The filter hoses have leaked ever since the first oil change on my boat. I just keep a rag wrapped around them since the leak is very small. From your description the inserts are coming ouot of your hatch. I don't think there is any access to them without removing the vinyl on the top side.
