In the process of buying the family Sport Nautique from the old man. Definitely a great boat but showing her age, according to the VIN she will be 20 this August. Some work is in order to get it to the state I would like for appearance and more importantly functionality.
Item 1. Needing a new alternator soon and thinking while replacing should I upgrade a bit in order to be able to increase stereo capacity down the road? Any suggestions on if I should or shouldn't and what I should replace with. Currently have the original alternator for the ford 351.
Item 2. Ballast Issue.-- Have been rolling with fat sacks out the wahhzzooo a large sack behind the engine box, 2 side sacks on port and starboard and one smaller one in the bow.
Now I had a thought in order to regain some floor space and make some make shift seating. So...
Idea 1. Buy a new fat seat, a locker sack and lead in the bow compartments. My thought for the fat seat is to remove the rear seat and build a box to cover it (the new fat seat doesn't seem like you could sit on it comfortably). I want this box to be like a sun-pad so I could pad and upholster it. I hope I'm explaining what I am envisioning well enough. If I can figure out how to put together a diagram I will post it.
The other option is to find a tank (ballast or fuel tank that would fit) and do a similar design as listed above.
Also has anyone installed perfect pass or other speed control device on a boat this old and how did it go?
Thanks for all input, I can't wait to dig into this project. I know I can get some great advice on here so please let it flow, I don't want to get in over my head.
