MAP = Mass Air Pressure, I think. I suppose the sensor went out of range and threw a fault code. I would then think the computer runs the engine on a baseline setting (i.e. richer) sans input from the MAP sensor.

Probably as simple as replacing the sensor, clearing the code and all is well.

Go to the PCM site and download the parts manual. CTRL-F and search for "sensor" or "map" etc.

Air tool is right. It is basically a vacuum sensor. It tells the computer what load is on the engine and helps it figure timing and fuel control . There should be manifold vacuum going to it. Check to make sure the vacuum hose going to it is unobstructed and not cracked or leaking.

Looks like it mounts directly to the plenum [no vacuum hose] I would remove it and make sure the passage
                is clear.

                  CLARIFICATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The pic title is 2006 but that is not exactly correct. The pic is from the 2003 to 2005 book but is the same for 2003 through at least 2007.

                  I assume Todd's boat is a 2003 210.

Hey guys thanks for the info. I am going to look at it this weekend and see what I find. Changing the sensor will probably be easy but clearing a code is something that will require help(computer). AirTool thanks for the picture and your assumption is correct.

The code should clear on its own if the problem goes away.

Codes might also be cleared by disconnecting the battery for while...not sure. If the problem is still there, the code will come back.

"Generally," OBD's clear their own faults when the problem is solved.

To clear the codes on that year you can do a couple of things first is to use a scan tool most effective, second use the "winky blinky" method or run the boat at least thru 80 cold to warm engine starts. No disconnecting or just replacing the sensor will make the code to go away. Also did you run the motor to the rev limiter and hit it far a few seconds, because some times the motor backfires and causes a pressure in the manifold causing the sensor to trip a code, I even seen a sensor pop out after hitting the rev limiter. sometimes you have to glue it down with rtv to keep it in.

                          Are you sure about that?

I'm not sure about the GM marine system, but GM auto systems both obd1 and 2 clear their own faults when the fault is repaird. If you disconnect the crank sensor, the MIL will come on. If you plug it back in, the MIL will go off. Something like a misfire code will take trips to clear...but a hardware fault should clear if the hardware is repaired.

                            Todd:
I realize that this occurred several years ago to your boat, but I have the same boat and the same problem. Did you ever resolve your MAP problem? First, got warning on display, same as you "MAP sensor see dealer". Found sensor very loose in manifold due to dry seal. Cleaned and applied gasket compound (Permitex) and put in place. Code is gone from display but boat still runs rough at idle and smell gas from very rich idle. Sound like the same thing you had? Did you replace the sensor? Did the code clear on its owne or did you have to reset it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mine is an 03 SAN with ZR6 motor, 400 hours total time. Thanks

Hi - was there a recommended solution out of this? I just replaced by rotor and distributor cap which fixed the boat not starting issue that I had. However, I have the "MAP sensor see dealer message" now and the boat seems to not get out of the hole like it previously did. Once up to speed it runs well. Nothing sounds wrong but the throttle just doesn't engage the boat and get it to plan out as quickly as it did before this sensor issue popped up. My best description is that it feels like you are pulling a trick skier or wakeboarder up even when you are trying to pull a slalom skier up (i.e. slow out of the hole).
