I have a 2000 Ski Nautique 196 with a red 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch hose with a threaded brass fitting with a hole in it laying on the engine floor near the drain hole. It looks like it runs from the back of the boat. When the boat is started water starts to come out of the brass fitting making the bilge start and run for a period of time. What is this red hose and what should it be connected to if anything? If its not connected how much water should be coming out?

RE: Red Hose On Engine Compartment Floor - What is it?
I would think probably a heater hose. Possibly instead of replacing a cracked heater core, it was capped off. Maybe a shower line too. I don't remember what color mine where. Do you have either a heater or a shower that doesn't work?

I haven't had it very long, but the heater doesn't push very warm air, and I haven't tried the shower at all. What's strange is that it really isn't capped off, it just has a threaded male fitting that has a hole on the end where water is pouring out. Since its just laying on the floor I assume it needs to be connected or capped with a female end. Wondering if its possible that it was disconnected at winterization and not reconnected.

Definately the heater hose. Look on the side of the block under the exhaust manifolds and see if there is a open hole. The heater attaches to two locations on the motor. One on the side of the block and the other at the temperature sending unit in the top of the motor.2001 Super Air Nautique

RE: Re: RE: Red Hose On Engine Compartment Floor - What is i
is the hose 1/2 or 5/8 ID or OD? And how red? dull heater hose red? or plastic covered bright red?
If that is the OD, it is a shower hose, if it is 5/8 ID, it is a heater hose.
My 1999 shower's hot supply was off the block under the exhaust, and the cold supply was T'd off the hose near the thermostat housing. I plugged the block, and removed the T when i eliminated the shower from my boat.
If you have a shower in there, you also have a valve block. You should be able to shut the center one and not have water at all. The other two are for mixing the flow to adjust the shower temp.the WakeSlayer

Yeah, I don't get that either, coming from the rear of the boat.
On my SAN, I believe my heater feed comes from the block as described above, and returns to the pump.
On our Mustang, the feed comes from a port in the intake manifold and returns to the water pump.
The smart way to disable a heater is to jump a hose from the feed to the return. I don't understand if you have a constant stream of water coming in or just an initial one. If one hose is off you are going to see a pretty substantial amount of water pouring out of the motor also.the WakeSlayer

Do a search on heaters and heater installs. You will find some pics of where they are attached on your engine. Let us know what you find when you get back to the boat.the WakeSlayer

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Red Hose On Engine Compartment F
Found the threaded hole on the block where it is supposed to go. Its on the port side in the middle of the block. The dealership must have thrown a brass plug in it when they saw the open hole. Reconnected the hose, checked for leaks, tested the shower and all works. Thanks for all the help and advice.
