    touchpad replacement q's

So my 2000 nautique has a smoked touchpad, new one ordered for $305 which is not nearly as bad as I expected...question is...will the new one have its own codes or will my old ones work? Dealer did not know, it would seem to me that the computer would maintain the codes and the touch pad would only "send" them but I do not know...also, does the carbon fiber cover come with the new pad or is it taken off of the old one? Thanks!

Your computer will remember the code.....it is plug n play. I cannot remember if my new keypad came with a new carbon cover, I am pretty sure I re-used the old one.

Likely there will be no code programmed and you can just press "start" to start the engine. I know this is the case for the current design. The code is NOT in the box...it is in the keypad.

To program the (one time) master embedded code, follow the directions for programming a primary user code. You get one chance so pay attention. If you want to have your code on file with CC, use the same master code as before. If you change it you are on your own, but you could notifiy them and perhaps they might update their records.

My experience with a 2006 model is that you have to program the master code.

I had same experience as AirTool on my 05. Keypad does not have code programmed in. You must program a master code, as well as any user codes you want. The logic is in the keypad and not in the ECM or the Gateway control box.

The ignition codes are stored in the PME box in the 2000-2002 boats. You can use any keypad from any 2000-2002 boat on yours and they will work with your codes. We have done that many times in our shop to see if faulty keypads are the problem. Also, if you ordered the carbon fiber model keypad, it will come with the carbon fiber already on it. Hope that helps.

That is good to know the old pad is different.

            Thank you for the clarification.

What were the symptoms that indicated the keypad trouble?

My buddy's 2000 super air will not turn over. It will run the starter but never start. The fuel pump was ruled out by the dealer, we fooled with the tether while trying to get it to start on the lake.....Any ideas? It was not accelerating fast then on the way back to the dock it just died after we were planed out and zipping along back to the dock and we had to get towed in. Hasn't started again. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the thread jack.

              Tres

Don't think it would cause it to stall but we had similar problems starting and the wires to the neutral kill switch on the top of the transmission were loose.
