    trailer jack problems

This is my third nautique and I have had problems with the bulldog trailer jack on everyone of my boats! Never in salt water and the things are impossible to jack up with one hand. Works fine without being under the boat but when down the thing is a bear. Anyway to lubricate it or replace it with the same fixture on the trailer?

I store my Nautique in the garage - at an angle - so I have to wheel it around a lot by hand. One of the first things I did was replace the old jack (Prestige trailer) with a heavier duty Fulton jack from West Marine, mostly for the bigger wheel. Also has made it much easier to crank when getting on and off the hitch. It's a universal fit part. I think I spent about $55. Check out westmarine.com.

thanks! But I'd like to have the original replacement part that bolts onto the fitting on the trailer.

our jack needs to be replaced and I'm wondering were I can find one. It's a Ramlin so it has a special bracket they use to mount it. Do I just go in search of another Bulldog like the original? Or is there a way to get a Fulton or other to fit? Thanks!

there should be a small oiling hole near the top of the jack body. Sometimes you can spin the jack around on the mount so that the wheel is stright up vertical. Mine has a small hole in the shaft just above the wheel (directly in the bottom of the shaft). A couple drops in there works wonders.

From what I have seen there are two styles of jacks, one that has a flange that mounts with a triagular pattern through a hole in the trailler mounted vertically and is stationary as well, more common on a camper than boat trailer, the other is the style that bolts to the side of the frame and usually pivots out of the way.

All you have to do is get a higher load rated jack for the style you have currently and it will look exactly the same and be easier to operate.

I had to replace the trailer jack on my Ram-lin trailer last year, because I could hardly crank it up/down. Took it apart and the gears looked fine. I ended up ordering a replacement from Mid-Ohio. The replacement was a Bulldog rated at 1500# and an exact fit. Recommend calling your local shop and ordering a new one.

Anyone have info on what jack will fit the mounting bracket on an '02 Ramlin trailer? We are still limping along with ours.

It got to where my jack was hard to crank on my Ramlin trailer. I found that when I greased the jack screw it work liked new. I is relatively easy. Take the weight off of the jack, (use another jack). Take the two bolts off the top exposing the 90 degree gears. Knock the steel pin out of the shaft on the gear connected to the jack screw. The caster and center assembly comes out the bottom of the jack exposing the screw. Grease it well and reassemble

Thanks for the info! I tried to do that last month but couldn't get the pin out of the gear. I'll have to go back and try again.

I have a 2001 Ramlin trailer that I just replaced the bulldog jack - it was pretty beat up and gave a me a scare recently as I was using an electric car polisher on the boat which was causing some side to side motion when I was working on the bow and that caused the jack to collapse! The jack didn't break, the locking pin popped out due the the way the jack was swaying. I see why the trailer has that triangular flange underneath the actuator, just glad my foot wasn't under there.

Anyways, so I just replaced it with the new Fulton F2, which is so much beefier and easier to move around in the garage. I did run into the problem others had with the mounting flange not matching, so I just cut off the mounting flange and used the std U bolts that came with it to mount it in the same spot. I can take a picture of it if that helps...

Here is a pic of the Fulton F2 on my ramlin trailer. I had to remove the old mounting plate that only fit the OEM jack.

jmo, do you have a problem with the jack raising the trailer high enough? I have an F150 and had to turn my hitch over to lower it enough to use this jack. My boat isn't quite level now when it's hooked to the truck.

I don't, and I think the Fulton has a higher "lift" than the previous one. Do you have a raised suspension or something, my tundra just has the stock suspension.

nope, stock. Maybe they have different height jacks and I got the wrong one (though I didn't see anything indicating a height). Other than that, I love it.
