Rev out engine at end of day?

I raced cars for a number of years and one thing just about every team mechanic told me was to occasionally, like about daily, rev out the engine for a few minutes to clear carbon deposits, injector varnish, etc. Does this apply at all to newer marine engines like Exc 343 or ZR6? EG, any benefit at the end of the day to run higher revs for a few minutes?

I do it every trip unless it gets dark. Trolling around a 8 to 15 mph certainly isn't bad for your engine. But with the PP and the DBW, some funky things are going on in your engine to control the speed ....especially without the oxygen sensor to confirm air/fuel ratios.

At the end of the long trolling periods....run her up to 32-35 for a few minutes just to clear everything out. I then let her idle at the dock just a bit to get a some cold water to cool down a little. Not too long though.
