'00 SANTE GT-40 - Check Engine Light and Surging

Hit the lake this afternoon after work. We wakeboarded for a few hours and were doing some wakeskating when my '00 SANTE started acting up. The check engine light came on and the boat seemed to surge or lose power if any throttle was given. Oil preasure was fine and so was the engine temp. Gas guage read a little over half a tank. I shut the engine off, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then restarted. Same problem. We then idled back to the ramp and loaded the boat. Check engine light stayed on the entire time and would flicker like it wanted to turn off.

Any idea what is causing this? I read several of the other posts regarding the surging problem and they all mentioned fuel pressure but none of them mentioned a check engine light. The check engine light has me worried that it is more than just a low presure fuel pump issue.

    Thanks for your help.

The GT40 has TWO oil pressure sensors - one for the gauge and another for the light. The light driving one will also cause the engine to run in limp mode. I forgot how to check that second gauge, but something about pulling it out and grounding it. Either way, it's a cheap part and east to replace - on the side of the engine block. I don't remember specifics - it's been a few years since I replaced mine.
2000 Pro Air Nautique - all black top and bottom with cream \"N\" logo. One of the first all black gelcoated boats in recent history I understand.

I would check the knock sensor. If it is bad it could cause the light to come on and the boat to go into lim mode.

I took the boat out this weekend and checked the different sensors. Turns out the one that was bad is the Temp Sensor. I've gone in and ordered a new one from Disc Inboard Marine. Thanks for the help!
