Overheated today, changed impeller and still hot-help please

Today I overheated while running and shut it down, but it got fairly hot, over 200. I got the impeller out, and it was toasted, but strange only the back half was torn up. I looked and could only find 3 pieces of impeller (all 12 gone), pulled the t-stat housing, no junk there. Should I pull the risers? One of the pieces I found was in the t-stat housing where the water is distributed to the exhaust manifolds.
Replacement impeller filled the strainer, and it would idle for a few minutes under temp, then it seemed to go straight to overheating.

I picked up a new t-stat, even thought the old one appears to be working ok. It opened at 165-175 in the pan, maybe that's too late?

Other question is, if the sending unit nut is loose, would that make the gauge erratic?

    thanks,
    Jack

Yes on the loose sending unit nut. Conventional wisdom says find those other pieces of rubber. Did you put the pump back on in the correct orientation?

I had a similar problem when my impeller went last season. I ended up finding the majority of the impeller pieces back towards the tranny cooler. They had dropped back instead of pushing forward.

I got the boat fixed today, but it was a little bit of a struggle. Turns out I had a couple of issues happening concurrently.

the hose from the trans cooler to the raw water pump has a spring inside of it, turns out the spring is corroded badly, and was beginning to fail. This was allowing the hose to collapse on itself, starving the RWP.

The thing about this hose is that is was replaced last season, so anyone know where to get stainless hose springs?

The other problem was a slight vacuum leak at the water strainer. I was able to isolate this issue with the hose and a bucket while running the engine.
