    2004 SAN 210 Impeller Change

I have been looking around the posts trying to find a step by step instruction on changing the impeller. I notice in my manual it refers to three bolts that are held in with an oring - and it says to loosen them. BUT, do I remove the serpentine belt, do these three bolts allow the impeller to come out - or is there something already documented that I missed during my search.

I have had zero problems with the impeller and since I started reading the posts I thought - I better change it since I haven't for three years. Just reading the posts will give me enough bad luck that I better do it - please advise.

RE: 2004 SAN 210 Impeller Change

I've promised to put pics of this procedure on but I just haven't had the time.

Use a 15 mm wrench on your idler to take the tension off the serpentine belt and slip the belt off. You don't take the bolt off, it just releases the tension.

Then you can spin the pump pulley around and see the three pump casing bolts through the pulley. DO NOT TAKE THE PULLEY OFF THE PUMP.

Instead, slip your 10 mm ? socket w/extension through the cut outs in the pulley to get to the three pump cover bolts. Break them all loose then loosen them equally until the pump cover (complete with the pulley) comes off. The bolts should not fall out because of the o-ring. Now you will have access to the impeller. Change out all the o-rings including the cover o-ring. You can rub a little grease or soap on them ... grease is better just don't get it on your carpet or skins.

There is a decal on the engine that shows the engine rotation. Use it to figure out the direction your pump turns. Squirt some ivory dish soap on the impeller and line it up with the casing. Turn the pulley in the proper direction and the impeller will slip right in. Torque the 3 bolts to 8.5 to 9 foot-lbs.

Put your serpentine belt back on.

Test drive and CHECK FOR LEAKS AND OVERHEATING.

If you can't see the rotation decal, pull your kill cord and crank the engine. Note the rotation. If the belt replacement confuses you, take a picture before you take the belt off. It is all shown on this decal...but I don't know if you can see that in your boat.

This is a 20 minute job if you take your time. On a bet, I could do it in under 5. (for DD, not sure about v-drives)
