Is it possible to put in and run a regular coil/distributor set up and bypass the electronic ignition coil on a 1999 Pro Air Nautique gt-40? We have been having troubles starting this thing when she is warm afetr runs. It takes usually an hour ot coll down befire she starts again. Runs like a rapped ape when she is running and starts everytime cold. Just when warm it won't fire. We think we have it narrowed down to some kind of ignition trouble with erractic spark. We changed the compouter, coil, wires, ??? I was wondering if we just ran a hot wire to a standard coil and distributor setup, if it would run and would it effect the fuel injection? We are grasping at straws to get this thing to run before we take a sledge to it. Real hard to enjoy a weekend out on the lake when you can't get it back. I also have a 79 Nautiques that NEVER lets me down.

No, that will not work. The ecm needs to see the PIP signal from the TFI module on that distributor. Have you changed the TFI module? Have you checked the timing?Shane Hill

My Python powered Pro air can be difficult to start when hot. On mine, I open the throttle and that seems to help it clear to start. PCM was very conservative on their fuel curves, and they also tend to have a pretty good start shot of fuel.2008 230 TE-ZR6
1999 Pro Air Python-sold and moved away :-(

Haven't checked the ignition module. Someone else just told me about it. Have they been known to cause these start problems when warm? How do you test them? We have checked the timing. That's how we think we found it was ignition problem. When it wouldn't start, the timing light wouldn't flash. And sometimes flash erratically. When it did fire up, the light would flash correctly. Do you think the TFI (I assume that's the ignition module) could be the problem????
