1996 5.8 GT-40 Problem

Need a little help

I have a 1996 5.8 GT-40 with only a 160 hours. It started at the end of last summer. You would be going a long and the engine would cut out and start right back up. This summer the problem progressed to after running for a bit, the engine would cut out, now it will not start back up until after cooling off. When you turn the key a few times the engine tries to start but will not. After some research on here I think it is the high pressure fuel pump. Can some one point me to a thread that show’s how to test or replace the high pressure fuel pump. I have already changed the fuel pump relays. Thanks for the help

go to your local auto parts store or even Walmart and buy a fuel pressure gauge. Hook it up to one of the shrader valves(simple tire stem valves) and with the ignition turn measure your pressure. Even when cranking the engine you can measure your pressure. It should be 39psi plus or minus 3. That is how to confirm fuel pump failure. Remeber ther is a high and low pump. I just replaced both of mine. Very easy to do. Good Luck
