    What's under the carpet?

We have a 01 Air Nautique that I'am going to be installing a couple of Amps in. I would like to put them up under the upholstery next to the observers seat where the stock speakers are mounted. The carpeting runs all the way up from the floor. Seems to be something between the carpeting and the fiberglass. Anybody know whats under there? Can I put a couple of small screws in it? GLUB! GLUB!

    RE: What

It's a dampening material, somewhat like tar paper, maybe about an 1/8" thick. And no, do not try to put screws in it! The 2001 Air does not have the extra fiberglass bump-outs for mounting amps, like some of the newer years, so please take the time to do it correctly. There are many options, nutserts, resin coated wood strips mounted with epoxy, etc. Do a search here, you'll find plenty of installs and options.

      RE: What

The same thng under a Scotsman's kilt.... very little I would go with the resin coated strips epoxied onto the side Just make sure you remove the deadening material for a good bond
