    2000 SAN Transmission issue ???

My 2000 SAN has just over 400 hours on her. My transmission seems to be spinning the prop a little when the boat is in neutral. I talked to my dealer and he told me that the older Ski's used to do this. He told me one can remove the shift lever and replace the o rings and this can sometimes solve the issue. He did mention that they have never had this issue on the V-drives though. Any ideas, pointers, suggestions ?

We do a ton of boarding and a ton of surfing with roughly 2600 lbs of weight for surfing with 4 -5 people. Thanks

RE: 2000 SAN Transmission issue ???

Your clutches are likely glazed a little. The older boats did it a lot because they had paper clutches that glazed rather easy. I am not sure why yours is doing it but it could be a sign of a rebuild sooner than later.

I thought i would check the fluid one more time and it seems like the fluid is not as clean as i originally thought. It almost looks thick like blood instead of thin and transparent. I am going to drop it and start there. I have been told that these v-drive trannies are bullet proof. I'll see how it turns out.

You have two transmissions. The V-drive is always in gear, and is not the cause of your problem. The shifting transmission is between the V-drive transmission and the engine. They have separate oil supplies.
When I change the transmission fluid in my Ski Nautique, it comes out looking new, after 100 hours. You should also change the transmission fluids at the end of every season.

Yup, we are just talking about the transmission, not the V-drive. I'll change the fluid and see what happens. I always keep a close eye on the oils.

            Drain Plug ?

Can someone tell me if there is a actual drain plug on this transmission. I want to really get all the old fluid out of it. I usually just suck it out with a pump. I am going to tear into it tomorrow. Thanks

              RE: Drain Plug ?

No way to get the plug out and drain it in the boat. You can suck and fill a few times and there will be very little left of the old fluid. Just be sure to run it in the water because you need to circulate the fluid in gear.

I sucked the fluid out and took a better look at it. It was in pretty good shape still. I took the sift lever out and checked the o-ring on the shaft. It all looks good. I talked to my dealer and he said to keep running it and there was not much else one could do. He said the old "Ski's" used to do the the same thing and they would just keep working for years. Any other ideas or comments ?
