New Starter Solenoid - Boat will not start

I've been having intermittent starting problems with my 1998 PCM GT40. When turning the ignition to crank position, there is frequently only a click. After repeated attempts, the engine would crank over and start. I replaced the starter solenoid, which didn't fix the problem and in addition the engine will no longer start, although it cranks over as it did before. Is there a circuit breaker or fuse that I may have tripped in the replacement process?

The negative battery terminal was disconnected throughout the replacement.

i had a problem with my 98' not starting & it turned out to be the fuse by the battery. really it was more the fuse harness deal than the fuse. i replaced the whole thing with an 50amp breaker & she's running good.

Did you ever find the problem?

        moxiemeister,
Did you ever find the problem? I believe I am having the same problem with my '94 Ski Nautique.
        Thanks,

          mhaaland,
Where can I find the fuse and fuse harness on the boat? Is it behind the dash someplace? Also, where should I pick them up if I need to replace them? Also, what does &amp mean?
          Thanks for your help.

            Dale,

If your GT40 is fuel-injected and has the ECM, it can be found on the back of the motor. There are three red buttons (60, 20, and 15, I believe) and these are the circuit breakers. You can push them and see if you get anything...if they click, that means the circuit was overloaded and broke. That may be what's causing your problem...I was having the same issue on my GT40 a couple weeks ago. Good luck...

Thanks. Mine is not fuel injected. Does that mean it is not possible to be the same issue as yours?

Replaced the starter relay and it fixed the problem. Thanks for the posts.
