Boat = 92' Sport with GT-40 w/ ~300 hrs
We are in the process of doing some maintenance on the boat, oil change, tranny fluid change, etc and we considered getting a new impeller. Have not had any problems with heat other than it goes up a bit at idle from 1 60 to 180, but that seems normal.
My question is where exactly is the impeller on this engine. I followed the intake from the hull below the engine in the rear to the strainer, then from the strainer to a section that looks like a tranny fluid heat exchanger, then around the engine to a little pump looking thingie on the belts, bottom right when facing the engine. Is this the impeller?? The body is only a couple inches across with a large spindle wheel on one of the belts. The hose then leads up to the heads and seems to mix in with the main cooling system and water pump.
Kind of a stupid question but this is my first experience maintaining a boat and like everyone else, my time on the lake should be spent running the boat, not fixing it. Any suggestions on how to open it up and check the impeller are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
