    2003 SANTE hit big stump

I was at Lake Gaston on the NC/VA line yesterday. My friend was driving my boat and I was riding. The depth went from 20 ft to 4 ft and my boat collided with a large stump. The rudder sheered off. The part that holds the shaft behind the prop is bent to the right. The prop is mangled. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I hit a rock years ago the prop took most of the hit missed the rudder . I replaced the prop, shaft, strut and coupler.
You will have to do at least as much plus rudder. Parts alone was $1200 17 years ago . Your insurance should cover it.

You need what most dealers will call a bottom job. At a minimum replace strut prop and and rudder. I would replace the shaft too if you can. Also now is a good time to upgrade to a dripless packing set up since it will all be apart. Last but not least you will need to get it aligned. Very Very important! If you have a dealer do these items they will run you $2,500+/-. My dealer does 5-6 of these per season so dont feel so bad. It happens.

I did it twice on my Supra. Both times hit stumps. Replaced prop, strut, shaft and rudder. Insurance covered it. It stinks to lose the time on the water but it happens.

If you are going to try to fix it yourself, look @ skidim.com, they have great prices on parts.

Ouch. Personally I'd want the dealer to get in there. If you ripped the rudder off, you might have structural damage. Once you start digging into it, no telling what you might find. And alignment is very critical.

I've damaged 3 props, but luckily only the prop. It happens. When I took my first one in (and it was UGLY), they told me about a boat/trailer that came loose, hit a curb, and the boat rode up on the trailer. Ripped EVERYTHING off the bottom. There's ALWAYS someone with a worse story. Yellow_Flash_Colorz:
