Glovebox cover out of Carbon Fiber

I know several of you have made some pretty nice projects using carbon fiber. I want to reproduce my glove box cover. I have looked at several sources with a varity of methods and materails. What methods do you use that require the simpliest procedures. Thanks

Found a company that water jet cut all my warning label sticker locations for $65. It is real Carbon Fiber and has the 3m adhesive applied.

Just e-mailed him a template and two weeks later they showed up.

That looks awesome! So how close does the real carbon fiber look to the dash trim on your Nautique? I think the offering on the web site looks like a great deal. I just have a couple questions:

What did make your templates out of that you sent them and did you just do the three pieces for $65 (dash piece & 2 pieces on sides of throttle)?

My "glove box/cooler" door is really just an accident waiting to happen. It's too heavy and already has claimed my thumbnail, so probably similar to mrese I'd like to reproduce it in a lighter version. Any idea how thick the carbon fiber is and whether or not it might work as a suitable replacement??

Before I finished hooking up my boat, I borrowed the dealers hot glue gun to start taking off all the warning labels.

I traced the labels onto a sheet of paper with dimensions scanned them and e-mailed it to Adam. I still have the templates I can e-mail them to you for the dash and throttle pieces for an 04.

The labels actually blend so well you would never know it didn't come from the factory.

Call Adam and explain your project, he is more than helpfull! I'll be the second one to purchase the glove box--my 4 year old had it slammed on her fingers last weekend!

This isnt my Job I do this stuff for a hobby. So to do this stuff It takes away from my free time. I like to get payed well to stay home and work with this nasty stuff. Most people have no Idea how hard it is working with this stuff, so they cant see them self paying $450 for a one off Carbon Fiber Glove Box.

IMO Stay away from the fake carbon stickers, The edge looks like **** and in the hot sun it will bubble up and peal back, at least that what my friends did.

As I said, "no offense." If my memory serves, you pimped your product all over the forums but could not, would not, did not produce at any price.

Your talents as an artist and a craftsman are not/were not in question.

Maclean Composites and others do this stuff as a business. Consequently, they have the time, tools and buying power to produce "custom" products for much less than a "hobbyist." And no they are not "stickers."

Nice job as always on the newest addition to the "Bling, Bling."

Icap no offence taken. I understand what you were saying. Yes its like you come up with stuff and then some people want it for nothing so I stoped trying to make stuff to try to sell. Thats great that there is a One off or short run company that your talking about mabey I should use them to make my next project. LOL
