Jabsco Ballast Pumps

So I'm in the initial phases of planning out a ballast project for a 1990 Sport Nautique. The standard Jabsco water puppies are a bit out of my price range. I have found some other Jabsco Pumps that may work. I'm enlisting the help of all you savvy nautique owners to confirm or dismiss this pump.

Price wise I can get a pretty good deal, around $180.00 a pump. If anyone could help me compare some technical info and give opinions as if you think this is comparable to the stock water puppies, I would appreciate it.

Any ideas on where to get a large tank for the rear, probably gonna take out the backseat. Would like to put a hard tank of some sort or a flyhigh fat seat and build a sunpad over top.

Open to all ideas and thoughts of what to do, I want to make the best ballast system I can, I'm boardin' on a budget. Ha.

You can buy the real ballast puppy pumps on ebay for around 200 and they will come with a prewired switch that is probably worth 30-40. The pumps for 180 dont sound like a deal.

Plus, they probably are not ignition protected which means you could not safely mount them in the engine compartment or bilge. Stick with the proven ballast puppies IMHO.

Get the Jabscos. Try calling Pumpbiz, the guy there will cut you a good deal.

THe Jabsco pumps referenced above - are these the new pumps that are in the new nautiques? I don't know what mine pumps now (2004 SAN) but at 8gallons a minute doesn't seem very fast. Is the benefit of these pumps is that you don't need two of them - one to draw in and one to pump out?

Check out the Jabsco's competition the: JOHNSON (Ultra Ballast). I have three of them in my Super Air and they are really nice reversible pumps. I paid around $200 each.

I installed them and love them. Takes about 12-15 minutes to fill my 2000# of ballast. I know 8 gal/min doesn't sound good but you only need one pump per bag and can mount them anywhere. No need to mount below the waterline like "other" pumps. They simply are the best.
