    Weird Problem

I dropped my Nautique in the water Saturday. It is a 92 with carbed 351 and the electronic ignition from PCM. It warmed up fine and went from the marina to my house without problem. ( It was running about 20 minutes) I went to ski after leaving it sit for about 45 minutes. I notice that it idled poorly. (about 750 in neutral - 500 just in gear) It also picked up a vibration at about idle speed and it would quit at about 1500rpm.

I know I did not hit anything with the boat. The prop looked fine. There was nothing wrapped around the shaft. Tranny fluid was ok too. We have been having carb problems, so I wonder if this could be a related problem? Any thoughts?

    Thanks

This could be a million things. Among them:

    - Fuel filter
    - Crack in distributor that expands when hot
    - Fuel lines
    - Carb
    - Coil
    - Etc......

Does it operate normally now? Was this a temporary thing? More info!

No, it did not seem to be temporary. In talking with Rich at Discount Inboard Marine, he seemed to think that the vibration was carb related. This was determined because the idle mixture screw on the port side can be fully seated while the boat is running. So, I think we are going to try a fresh metering block and see what that does.

The carb has been rebuilt 2 times, so there may be something lodged in the metering block. Also, the plugs, wires, filters, and impellars are all fresh.

I had a similar problem with mine. It turned out to be a carb problem. I rebuilt the carb, but the problem was still there. it turns out that my rebuild kit didn't come with the small o rings i needed. There is a small tube between your metering block and carb body. This tube has two small o rings that have to be sealed. It turned out that was my problem. Hope this helps, good luck.
